Analysis Report of Chinese PVC Industry
Sunfaith China Ltd, May 2007, Pages: 12
Executive Summary
In the recent years, Chinese PVC industry has experienced a dramatic development. The apparent consumption and production capacity was 8.94 million ton and 8.238 million ton respectively in 2006. Calcium carbide process was mainly applied in China, accounting for 73%. With the continuous expansion of PVC’s production capacity, an oversupply situation grew up. As a result, the price competition was fiercer, and the benefit of the industry fell sharply, which caused a great deficit of some manufactures. In order to turn the scale, the domestic manufacturers have expanded the export since 2005, and the export of PVC was 500,000 tons in 2006. It relieves the domestic downturn market, but the following trade disputes restrict in part the PVC’s export.
In the coming years, the production capacity of Chinese PVC will continue to increase. However, due to the market integration, the domestic PVC industry will pass through a difficult period in the following two years, which will be followed by opportunities and challenges.
