Following the disappointing 2006 bid round for exploration blocks, Trinidad and Tobago improved the process and managed to attract large international companies in the 2010 call for tender. The share of LNG exported to Asia and Europe is increasing while volumes shipped to the USA are reduced.

Overall, Africa boosted world-wide consumption of crude oil. Significant increase in Nigerian crude oil production offset falls in Algeria, Iraq and Venezuela. South-Africa increased its coal trade surplus by 4.5% during the year, while Algerian natural gas output fell another 12%. Africa also registered a 6% increase in power generation.
