EBD or electronic brake force distribution is also known as electronic brakeforce limitation is an automobile brake technology that varies the amount of force being applied to the wheels of the vehicle based on different conditions such as road conditions, speed loading and etc. Basically, EBD is based on the principle that not all wheels carry the same weight and every wheel requires different brake force to bring it to a stop without the car going out of control. Also, the amount of weight being carried by vehicle shifts during the braking process and so the amount of braking force required by the wheel may also change. EBD is always coupled with anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC), EBD regulated the amount of brake force applied on each wheel to maximize stopping power while maintaining vehicle control. Mostly the most weight is carried by the front wheels so the EBD applies less pressure at the rear wheels so that they don’t skid or lock.

EBD basically acts a subsystem of ABS and ESC out of which ABS which is anti-lock braking system works by applying braking force gradually on the wheel so that the vehicle slows down without the wheels of the vehicle locking and causing a skid whereas the ESC works by maintaining the vehicles stability and balance during turning operations and removes the possibility of understeer or oversteer. EBD module consists of wheel speed sensors, brake force accumulators and electronic control module. EBD works as when the wheel speed sensors read the speed of the wheel and calculate the slip ratio, this information is then sent to the ECU which in turn gives the signal to the brake force accumulators telling the amount of force that needs to applied on the wheel.
