Full glass: Rising demand for premium craft beer and spirits is supporting industry performance in 2023
Discretionary spending on pubs and clubs depends on income levels with drinkers limiting spending in times of high inflation as everything becomes more expensive. The pandemic, the cost-of-living crisis and falling alcohol consumption levels are threatening the performance of industry players. Industry revenue is falling at a compound annual rate of 2% over the five years through 2023 to approximately €2.6 billion, including growth of 2.1% in 2023.
This industry covers licensed pubs and nightclubs that sell beverages for on-site consumption. Operators may or may not charge an entrance or membership fee. Some operators may also offer food, music and other forms of entertainment. The industry does not include hotels or restaurants.
