Phoenix, AZ Market Overview
HealthLeaders Interstudy, May 2011, Pages: 55
Leading health systems in the Phoenix market continue to expand existing facilities or open new ones, despite flattening population growth, the dwindling of the physician supply and the imminent expansion of the state’s uninsured population due to Gov. Jan Brewer’s plan to reduce enrollment in Arizona’s Medicaid program by about 136,000. Health systems and other healthcare providers are lobbying Brewer to avoid these cuts by imposing taxes on healthcare providers and health plans that would result in federal matching funds. Managed care plans in the area can expect another underwhelming year for commercial enrollment. The best opportunity for membership gains appears to be in Medicare Advantage plans.
