With this report, the analyst examines the use of FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) by MNOs worldwide, particularly since the launch of 5G services. FWA services are set to grow in importance as a lower cost alternative to the MNO for fixed Broadband services which have a higher investment cost.

FWA is being launched by a series of MNOs worldwide, with the analyst identifying 32 MNOs in 18 countries offering FWA as a household mobile internet service. FWA is frequently being positioned as a supplementary service to a fibre broadband service - by MNOs who offer both services. As the coverage for FTTH services is limited FWA is being used as a high-speed broadband alternative with a faster turn-up than for fibre. Price levels for FWA services vary by country and reflect pricing in each market, with FWA rentals in Italy being priced at or below fibre broadband levels (at around USD $30 per month). In other markets, FWA pricing is higher, in Australia it is at USD $60 to USD $80 per month. In the Middle East region FWA rentals are even higher at an average of over USD $93 per month - but with a higher mobile data allowance than in most other countries - although the most common FWA mobile data allowance is “unlimited” used by 25 out of the 32 MNOs listed in the survey.
