Company Profile: KT Corp.
Pyramid Research, Inc, March 2004, Pages: 8
KT Corp. is South Korea’s incumbent operator and enjoyed a monopoly on fixed-line services until 1999. It continues to control much of the fixed-line communication infrastructure in the country, and has benefited tremendously from increasing usage in data services and rapid proliferation of the Internet. With over a 95% market share of the POTS market, it has leveraged its copper-line infrastructure to become the country’s largest Internet access provider. With competitors struggling under heavy debt, KT continues to set the standard with its aggressive rollout of next-generation networks and technologies. The company is well positioned to implement such upgrades with strength in its business operations as well as its strong financial performance, but eroding voice revenues from falling tariffs and fixed-mobile substitution will temper the company’s dominance in the long term.
