Colorimetry: Understanding the CIE System
John Wiley and Sons Ltd, Aug 2007, Pages: 496
Colorimetry deals with the physical measurement of color perception. Though there are several different theories and systems of colorimetry that attempt to address the difficulties involved in 'color measurement,' since 1931, the CIE has set colorimetric standards and procedures, which are now integral in performing laboratory and industrial color measurement. Over the past 75 years, the CIE has periodically issued updates and further recommendations regarding colorimetry; this book collects all this information under one cover, and provides tutorial help in understanding CIE recommendations.
This book will deal with all aspects of CIE colorimetry, including: basic principles, colorimetric measurements and calculations (including uncertainty analysis), color difference and color appearance evaluation, color management, visual fundamentals and their implications in updating the colorimetric system (i.e. temporal and spatial problems), and future perspectives.
-Colorimetry: Understanding the CIE System summarizes and explains the standards of CIE colorimetry in one comprehensive source. -Presents the material in a tutorial form, for easy understanding by students and engineers dealing with colorimetry. -Provides an overview of the area of CIE colorimetry, including colorimetric principles, the historical background of colorimetric measurements, uncertainty analysis, open problems of colorimetry and their possible solutions, etc. -Includes several appendices, which provide a listing of CIE colorimetric tables as well as an annotated list of CIE publications. -Commemorates the 75th anniversary of the CIE's System of Colorimetry.
Authors Bio: János Schanda is Professor Emeritus of the University of Veszprém in Hungary, where he taught colorimetry and visual ergonomics. He headed the Department of Image Processing and Neurocomputing between 1996 and 2000. Schanda is currently the Secretary of the CIE, and is a member of the advisory board of Color Research and Application, Lighting Research and Technology, Light & Engineering, and J. of Light and Visual Environment.
