While there are many books on the subject of measurement and evaluation for learning and development, these are often of questionable valueimitating mainstream processes, presenting untested methodologies or offering processes that are too complex, cumbersome and expensive.

This book will address top-of-mind issues that exist in the learning and development function, including: Learning and development functions are still in crisis mode struggling for their existence. Even the best organizations have difficulty convincing key stakeholders that increased learning investment is needed or that the current learning investment is adding value. Evaluation is still in its infancy in many organizations.

Benchmarking data show that the vast majority of organizations are not yet ready for Impact and ROI and are far from developing comprehensive measurement and evaluation systems. Most learning and development professionals use at least some approach to evaluation. They want to build on their current processes and strengthen their situation rather than start from scratch with new evaluation processes. If they have made progress at Levels 0, 1, and 2, they want to move to Level 3 while at the same time strengthening Levels 0, 1, and 2. They want tips and tools to make their jobs easier. This book will meet this critical need. Kirkpatrick levels are not much help. Kirkpatricks original four steps to training evaluation were introduced in the 1950s. This gap of time and lack of practical application following the introduction of the four steps left it to these practitioners to refine and improve the levels and to offer systematic ways of evaluating, including the development of standards.
