Despite market liberalisation Cyprus's telecoms market continues to be dominated by the incumbent, CyTA, which is still fully-owned by the state. The government has rekindled plans to privatise CyTA as part of a wider financial bailout package. The process is expected to be completed by the end of 2015. Improved regulatory conditions, particularly in relation to network interconnection and access, has given competing operators the confidence to invest in network infrastructure, unbundle local loops and launch competing services. This report introduces the key aspects of Cyprus's fixed-line telecoms market, outlining the regulatory environment, major players and providing relevant operational data and financial statistics on the operators as well as the market. Cyprus is a divided country with most of the information in this report concerned only with the situation in the Greek Cypriot area.

Key developments:

Government appoints bankers to advise on privatisation of CyTA, expected by end-2015; CyTA's USO obligations extended; CyTA upgrades transmission capacity on the TE-North Cable System to 500Gb/s; PrimeTel lands HAWK submarine cable; regulator market data to June 2014; operators' statistical data updates to 2014, recent market developments.

Companies covered in this report include:
