A Matrix Handbook for Statisticians emphasizes computational statistics and algorithms due to the growing need for more modern techniques and includes numerous references to both the theory behind the methods and the applications of the methods. The book maintains its uniqueness among the competition through its extensive cross-referencing to topics within the book as well as external referencing for proofs.

Each chapter consists of four parts: a definition followed by a list of results, a short list of references to related topics in the book (since some overlap is unavoidable), one or more references to proofs, and references to applications. Dr. Seber, a highly qualified authority on matrix theory, is the ideal choice for authoring a handbook on matrices. His approach provides comprehensive coverage of the matrix theory and includes a collection of topics not found in any other one book.

Topics include special matrices, non-negative matrices, special products and operators, Jacobians, partitioned and patterned matrices, matrix approximation, matrix optimization, multiple integrals and multivariate distributions, linear and quadratic forms, etc.

Authors Bio:
George A.F. Seber is a Professor in the Department of Statistics at The University of Auckland in New Zealand. He received his PhD in Statistics from Manchester University in England. In 1973, Dr. Seber was the first Chair in Statistics at The University of Auckland as well as the Headship of the newly created Statistics Unit within the Mathematics Department.

He was involved in developing the new Department of Statistics at The University of Auckland in 1994. He is the author or co-author of nine books, five of which have been published by Wiley. His research interests include statistical ecology, bioinformatics, and the estimation of animal abundances.
