Advisory Note: How to Improve Network Availability, Reliability, and Security
Enterprise Management Associates, May 2007, Pages: 2
This Advisory Note explores network availability, reliability, and security issues and their impact on each other as well as the entire IT environment.
As network services proliferate and expand to every aspect of corporate and consumer activities, the ability to maintain high levels of operational availability, reliability, and security becomes ever more critical and onerous. With greater familiarity, consumer expectation creep results in pronounced intolerance to inconvenience. For enterprises, 'brownouts' and outages can have a severe impact on productivity, revenue loss, and customer churn. Not meeting SLAs (Service Level Agreements) can result in revenue loss and regulatory penalties for the service providers. All parties in this interconnected environment have a resounding motivation to reduce the time and cost of both network service deployment and operation to minimize 'brownouts' and catastrophic failures.
