Advisory Note: BSM and the New IT Executive

Information Technology (IT) is at a tipping point where the business mandate has shifted from managing technology to managing business services. The new emphasis on Business Service Management (BSM) reflects this change. This shift is creating challenges for vendors and IT technical staff, but perhaps the biggest impact is on CIOs and other IT executives. They have become the pivot point between IT and the business, and add value, not simply by overseeing the delivery of technology, but also by serving as strategic technology advisors to the business. This article explores this new role and discusses the ways in which IT executives can enhance alignment between IT and the business.
