Although IT shops have over two decades of experience with instrumentation for management data, many need to embrace a shifting paradigm. The device centric focus is no longer sufficient for efficient IT management in support of business operations.

IT shops have instrumented and collected IT infrastructure management data for decades. Many IT departments have evolved their management data instrumentation from reactive to proactive mode of operations. Despite this evolution, IT infrastructure management instrumentation in many IT shops remains inadequate for producing a level of information adequate to ensure that the IT staff can efficiently deploy and maintain IT services in support of business operations.
