China Urethane Elastic Fibre Industry Report, 2007-2008

From Jan to Sep 2007, the output of urethane elastic fibre in China reached 93,400 tons, up 25.36% year on year. The sales revenue was RMB 13.8 billion, up 55.15% year on year. The operating profit achieved RMB 1.5 billion, up 147.79% year on year.
By the third quarter of 2007, the output of urethane elastic fibre occupied 0.5% only among the total value of the whole industry, but the sales revenue occupied 4.8% among that of the total industry, and the operating profit occupies even 14.6%.
As textile exports expand and domestic demands for urethane elastic fibre in textile increase, the demand for urethane elastic fibre increased by 50% year by year before 2005. However, due to the trade friction, the export volume of the textile products began to fall after 2005. Fortunately, the demand for urethane elastic fibre was still on upward trend with powerful growth momentum.
By the end of 2007, the output of urethane elastic fibre reached 0.23 million tons. In the second half 2007, thousands of capacity were newly increased. Supposing that 90% were in operation, the output in 2007 were estimated to be 0.2 million tons. In 2008, the output is expected to increase to certain degree.
From 2002 to 2007, production capacity of urethane elastic fibre in China grows at 56.5% annually on average. Its output increased 8.3 times. The consumption increased from 0.024 million tons in 2002 to 0.2 million tons in 2007. The self-sufficiency degree developed from 62% to above 95% currently. From 2007 to 2008, a new round of investment in urethane elastic fibre sprang up. Zhejiang Huafeng Spandex Corporation and Sichuan Sofcra Special-typed Fiber Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Shuangliang Group all reconstructed and expanded. The industrial thus got further developed.
After the depression of urethane elastic fibre industry from 2004 to H1 2006, the price of urethane elastic fibre began to surge since the second half year of 2006 and the industry was in boom.
According to the statistics from National Bureau of Statistics of China, the bulletin of the listed companies and Webtextiles, the report analyzes the increase of the supply and demand of China urethane elastic fibre industry from 2007 to 2008. The report also evaluates industry prospect and development trend through analysis on factors led to 2004-2006 depression, forecasted supply and demand in next two years and expansion of key companies.
