'India Textile and Garment Industry 2H10' provides an overview of the industry in India, among which production, textile exports, export promotion measures and employment are included in the report. The cotton / man-made fibre textile industry is the largest organized sector in India in terms of employment, with approximately 1mn employees. As at 31st October, 2009, there were 1,834 cotton / man-made fibre textile mills (non-SSI) located in India.
The report includes market trends and an outlook for the textile and garment industry in India, where measures were undertaken by the Indian government in view of supporting this industry through the provision of infrastructure and funds. In view of supporting textile units with appropriate infrastructures, the Indian government established the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks where more than 2,000 entrepreneurs are expected to establish their units in these parks, and investments as much as INR19,459cr are expected to flood into these parks that cover an area of 4,300 acres.

Among the leading players are: Alok Industries, Vardhman Textiles, JBF Industries Ltd. and Indo Rama Synthetics (India) Ltd. As one of the leading players, Alok Industries acquired a staggering 60% stake of Czech-based Mileta a.s.; subsequently, Alok increased its stake in the Czech-based textile entity to 79.80% while its products are exported to countries in Europe, North and South America, Africa, Middle East, Far East as well as Australia.
