Pocket Guide to Teaching for Medical Instructors, 2nd Edition
John Wiley and Sons Ltd, March 2008, Pages: 104
This new edition of the bestselling Pocket Guide to Teaching for Medical Instructors by the Advanced Life Support Group now incorporates the best features of the GIC Guide published by RCUK (the UK Resuscitation Council), providing a guide for novice instructors on teaching resuscitation that is compiled and approved by two leading bodies in medical education.
The title is divided into two parts. Part one begins by introducing the basic principles of teaching and then goes on to deal in more detail with a number of modes of teaching on courses. Lectures, skill stations, scenarios, workshops and discussions are dealt with here. In each case practical guidance is given to help the reader to become a more effective teacher.
Part two covers many of the same areas again, but this time giving more background information, and describing some more advanced instructional skills. It deals with the nature of adult learning, the four domains of learning, the learning process, questions and answers, role play, mentoring and problems with workshops and discussions. Each topic is presented as a short section which can be sampled to help with specific issues.
