China has become the world’s third largest LPG consumer since the end of the last century, with LPG consumption growing at 18% in the previous decade.
China’s LPG market, however, has some special characters as follows:
- Largely increased import of LPG helps improve the dependent degree to about 40%, making LPG one of the energy resource products with highest dependent degree.
- Compared with other petroleum products, LPG took the lead in opening up the domestic market and helped introduce the foreign investment and bring more competition stress to enterprises engaged in the industry.
- 95% of the home made LPG products come from two Chinese giants, PetroChina and Sinopec.
- The Pearl River Delta consumes most of the imported LPG and has gradually become the new distributing center for LPG import and storage, conveyance.
The project of transferring natural gas from west China to east China and the introduction of LNG will surely bring new alterations to the domestic LPG market.
In a word, a pluralistic gas market is being cultivated in China, which indicates brand new challenges for the market too.
