Sales of oils and fats in the USA are predicted to decline by 1.8% in current value terms in 2003, and by 4.1% in real terms, to US$4,591 million. Meanwhile, volume sales are expected to fall by an even greater 3.5%, to 1,493,512 tonnes. Though sales of olive oil are predicted to continue to grow in both value and volume terms during 2003, declining sales of other products will constrain overall oils and fats value growth. This is primarily the result of high levels of product maturity, growing consumer health concerns, and, perhaps most importantly, diminished time spent cooking at home. With in-depth analysis of the latest trends in the oils and fats market, this report is part of a series of 52 individual country reports providing essential strategic data. Use these studies to assess the impact of new products; anticipate new retailing trends and measure brand and market shares.
