In 2014, the pet care industry posted 11% current value growth. However, part of this apparently positive growth can be explained by price increases coming from 16% VAT imposed on pet food since 1 January 2014 as part of a new fiscal regulation which also taxes other fast-moving consumer goods including high-caloric food and beverages. Despite a positive performance in value terms in 2014, several pet care categories saw negative movements in volume terms.
