Novelty value and trendy image boost demand for RTD coffee products
RTD coffee showed the most dynamic performance within soft drinks in 2005 to record double-digit increases in volume and current value sales. It also remained the smallest soft drinks sector however, accounting for less than 1% of total retail volume sales. Its dynamism was underpinned by the relative novelty of RTD coffee products in Austria, as well as by consumer perceptions of products as trendy lifestyle items. Strong advertising activities and new launches also contributed to its positive development. Consumer perceptions of products as trendy lifestyle items also proved a major factor in the further development of energy drinks in 2005, the solid performance of which underpinned that of functional drinks as a whole.
