In 2001-2002 sales of alcoholic drinks in Russia are expected to increase by 9% in volume terms. Growth will be stimulated by activity across alcoholic drinks, except for a decline in vodka sales. Due to the importance of vodka in terms of volume share, this impacts strongly on overall sales and especially spirits. In 2002 the main trends were a diversification in consumer tastes. Niche alcoholic drinks and spirits showed the most dynamic growth. Meanwhile vodka, the most significant alcoholic drink in volume terms, showed a decline in sales for the second year running. Consumers were also prepared to pay more for their drinks, which led to a stronger increase in spirit value sales than volume sales between 2001 and 2002. Our alcoholic drinks analysis investigates both on-trade and off-trade trends; the performance of key national specialities and new product developments for beer, wine, spirits, cider/perry and FABs. Volume and value sales breakdowns, pricing analysis and forecasts to 2007 help to provide a comprehensive and practical overview of the key issues affecting the industry. Part of a 52 country series covering both mature and emerging markets, this report supplies invaluable information that will allow you pinpoint opportunities and plan growth strategies.
