In the fourth quarter of 2008 the value of construction works totalled HRK 5.724 bln, down from HRK 6.494 bln in the third quarter of 2008. According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics of Croatia, the number of the registered construction companies stood at 23,072 in end -March 2009. The active companies numbered 14,343. Privately-owned construction companies totalled 13,966, while the state-owned were 96. The construction cooperatives were 159 in the first quarter of 2009.
