Worldwide Cellular Base Station Forecast Driven by Data
In-Stat/MDR, September 2008, Pages: 40
This worldwide base station report contains a forecast for both new and deployed macro cellular base stations. Forecasts are broken out by region for the following technologies: LTE, HSUPA, HSDPA, WCDMA, CDMA2000 1X RTT & CDMAOne, CDMA2000 1X EV-DO, EDGE, GPRS, GSM, and TD-SCDMA.
Overall, 2007 was an excellent year for base station shipments, owing to the combined effect of large subscriber growth in the areas served by GSM base stations, as well as cellular operators, worldwide, launching new WCDMA networks. 2008 is turning out to be much more constrained. A worldwide economic slowdown combined with slowing subscriber growth and restrained wireless data usage are all taking their toll on the cellular base station market. In-Stat believes that the future looks bright, but not much will be able to match the sales we have seen in these last few years.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Total worldwide base station shipments will drop strongly this year compared to 2007.
- Cellular demand in China and India will keep sales of GSM base stations strong for many years.
- WCDMA base station shipments will exceed those of GSM-type base stations by 2011.
- 2009 will see a sharp rise in the number of TD-SCDMA base stations shipped.
