CBA’s core strength is its proprietary distribution network, which is Australia’s largest bank franchise. It has 1,010 bank branches and over 3,300 ATMs nationally. CBA supports more than 180,000 Electronic Funds Transfer Point of Sale terminals throughout Australia, as well as 10 call centers.
The group’s distribution franchise, scale and brand enabled it to command a strong market position in many of the banking segments, especially in the retail banking. The group has the largest market share of home loans (18.6%) and household deposits (29%) as of December 2007.
Customer service remains the group’s top strategic priority to remain competitive in the market place. After the initiatives taken in 2006, the group received fewer retail customer complaints and more customer compliments in 2007. In 2007, the group introduced various customer service initiatives to increase customer satisfaction scores.
