Branch technology - branch renewal leads face-to-face revival
Datamonitor, Jan 2002
This brief document highlights the return of the branch to prominence in terms of retail banking distribution strategies. After years of cost cutting, some actual network reductions and strategic neglect banks are increasingly realizing that the branch remains a key point of interaction for the majority of customers and the premier point for higher value sales transactions. Internet technology will be vital in achieving the cost cutting and revitalization of branches desirable. Integrating the branch with the Internet based channels and migrating back office processes away from the branch will be key to freeing up capacity to focus on value added services and products. New opportunities for branch banking will also emerge as branches could become both mobile and temporary service solutions.
