2008 Report on China's White Carbon Black (WCB, Silica) Industry

Driven by the need from a variety of industries, including tire, shoe-making, pesticide, forage, coating, toothpaste and others, Chinas WCB industry has been expanding rapidly in recent years. In 2007, the output of WCB was 620,000 tons in China, while the demand 422,000 tons.
China has now become a net exporter of WCB, with South Korea and Vietnam among others as the major export targets. Chinas export of common WCB was 321,000 tons in 2007, while special-purpose WCB needed for import (such as fumed WCB and super-fine WCB for silicon rubber and coating), reached a volume of about 96,000 tons.
WCB is extensively produced in more than a dozen provinces in China, among which are provinces of large-quantity production that include Fujian, Shandong, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, and others. Several dozens of WCB producers in China are able to produce 700,000 tons of WCB total every year. The top producers include Nanping Jialian Chemical (Fujian Province), Jiuchen Fine Chemical (Shanghai), Zhuzhou Xinglong Chemical Industrial Co., Ltd., Rhodia Silica (Qingdao), and Hengheng Silica (Wuxi). Some produce WCB with a fumed process, and they include Shenyang Chemical Co., Ltd., Shanghai Chlorine and Alkali Chemicals Stock Co., Ltd., Guangzhou GBS High-tech & Industry Co., Ltd., Cabot Bluestar Chemical, and Tokuyama (Japan), with annual production capacities of 1,000 tons, 100 tons, 2,880 tons, 4,600 tons, and 5,000 tons respectively. For the time being, China is able to produce 13,500 tons of fumed WCB every year, of which Chinas home-grown producers account for 29%.
