In a more than 100 million population in North Africa, above 70% are Arabs.
This report mainly focuses on the five densely populated countries in Northern Africa: Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco; it studies telecom markets, status quo and financial results of key operators in the five countries.
North Africa is quite unbalanced in both economic development and telecom development. For example, Libya has developed oil industry and monopolized telecom industry, while Egypt has a large population and severely competitive telecom market.
The most influential telecom operator in this region is Egypt Orascom Group with network covering a 498 million population in North Africa as well as some regions of South Asia and West Asia; the penetration rate of mobile phone in this region has amounted to 46%. In terms of market share, Orascom is the NO.1 telecom operator in Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Pakistan. In the recent two years, Orascom developed rapidly and its business scale doubled for several successive years.
