PC-TV Tuners: Multimedia PCs' Preemptive Strike To Control The Emerging Digital Living Room
In-Stat/MDR, July 2005, Pages: 103
A Race Among Pay-TV, Consumer Electronics And PCs Favors PCs:* Free-to-Air TV provides "content" that bypasses pay-tv services * PC-TV Products also enable "capturing" video from other sources * Broadband connections enable continual updating of software * PCs naturally connect to in-home networks and large storage systems * PC-TV Tuners can be used to provide HDTV PVRs without any monthly fees
Digital Terrestrial TV services will reshape the PC-TV market. DTT PC-TV Tuner products will need to be country-specific, and be upgraded in step as local DTT services evolve in each region. This will cause a shake out in the market.
* Microsoft's Media Center Edition and Longhorn OS will drive sales * Intel's Dual Core Microprocessors and PCI Express Bus help, too! * Apple Computer's Emerging Intel-Based Macintoshes also help * Pay-TV services will eventually be available on multimedia PCs
We expect the worldwide retail value of all PC-TV Tuner Products to ramp up as Digital Terrestrial products gain momentum, and dual tuner products become popular to support Personal Video Recorder functions. By 2009, our forecast model predicts a worldwide retail value of US$ 3.7 Billion, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 42.6 %.
