Asia/Pacific Embraces Residential FTTx Services
In-Stat/MDR, Dec 2005, Pages: 49
Five major countries in the Asia/Pacific region—Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, and Australia—make up the fastest developing regional broadband market, which includes the region's adoption of advanced FTTx in the residential broadband market: both fiber to the premise/home (FTTP/FTTH) and fiber to the neighborhood/curb/building (FTTN/FTTC/FTTB). All five countries covered in this report show the various factors necessary for prominent FTTx growth in Asia/Pacific: the total market is expected to expand substantially from US$4,400.4 million in 2005 to US$10,324.0 million by the end of 2009. -In China, FTTC/N+LAN is proving to be a cost-effective way to introduce broadband into homes. -Japan has built up high-speed network infrastructures extending fiber all the way to the home, delivering a wide array of voice, data, and multimedia applications including the increasingly popular VoIP service. -In South Korea, service providers have found that online gaming, VOD, and e-commerce are money-making applications that are well suited to the increased bandwidth of FTTx. The report also includes profiles of broadband providers and their FTTx strategies, and forecasts (to year 2009) of FTTx subscribers and service revenue for each country and the region as a whole.
