Market Definition
The express logistics market covers parcel delivery not handled by general postal organizations (apart from specialist parcel subsidiaries). A parcel is defined here as an individual package of up to 31.5 kg. Express services are categorized as follows: Standard Parcel Services (both Standard Express and Deferred) referred to packages delivered 2 days or more after pick-up - although it is generally between 2 and 4 days. Same Day refers to packages that are delivered on the day of collection. Next Day refers to all volumes that are delivered the day after pick-up and these volumes may or may not be time definite. Volumes in this database refer to single parcels ('units') only (no groupage or pallets). All Currency conversions have been calculated at constant 2006 annual average exchange rates.
For the purpose of this report, Europe comprises Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
