As in 2006, the Fire Doors market registered solid growth in 2007. The characteristic of the fire doors market and annual variation heavily depended on governmental decision making and the norms applied in the industry. This explains the heavy increase in 2005 and 2006, which was the first deadline for EW and EI applications, which is due again in 2008 and 2010.

Indeed, the lack of regulations and homogenisation has traditionally created uncertainties on the fire doors market. For 3-4 years, the EU and national governments have acted to close this gap and have developed a certain number of guidelines, laws and norms to regulate the European market and its competition level. The Lisbon process advocates harmonisation and unification of the market which implies that countries should write down laws in order to reflect the common directives.

More generally, in looking at the regional market shares, two countries stand out: the UK and Germany. Traditionally, the UK has been focused on security and issues related to this industry (as is the case for the CCTV market for example). No wonder the UK leads the pack in the Fire Doors markets. However, known for its loose legislation in this field, the UK has an important investment to make if it wants to remain a competitive country.

On their side, Belgium and the Netherlands suffer from their geographic size, but also because these are more service oriented countries compared to its neighbours. Indeed, the more industrialized countries logically consume more fire resistance doors.

Market concentration remains weak, as amongst the top 10 players no spectacular change in share has been noticed. The market leader, however, had a solid jump in 2007. In the mist of the new legislation to come, this can mean a new era for the competition.

Market Tracking Fire Doors in Europe Top 7 includes:
