New Zealand - VoIP - Statistics & Overview
Paul Budde Communication Pty Ltd., Feb 2008, Pages: 9
While there has been significant adoption of VoIP and IP telephony amongst the business sector, especially among larger organisations, residential VoIP adoption, like in other developed nations, has been very slow, despite some impact in New Zealand from Skype and Slingshot’s iTalk. However the VoIP services market in New Zealand will be transformed over the next few years by local loop unbundling and other regulated products such as enhanced UBA, which are capable of supporting services such as VoIP. Telecom is poised to respond to competitors using either LLU or enhanced UBA to offer discounted telecoms bundles with VoIP landline substitutes from the middle of 2008. However, by delaying its plans to deliver VoIP services until 2008, Telecom has potentially left the door open to competitors to seize early opportunities in the market.
