Ruggedized Blade Market Takes Their Cut of the Stimulus Pie
Crystal Cube Consulting, March 2010, Pages: 44
Who will benefit from the stimulus recently approved and injected into our economy? Well for starters we have a couple of specific “ear-marked” items which will provide some fairly immediate stimulus for telecommunications. First off the bill includes about $7 billion in grants and credits for the build-out of high-speed Internet connections to underserved communities. It would be the first time the federal government would pay to spread broadband to homes on a large scale. Big beneficiaries could be major phone and cable companies like AT&T Inc., Verizon Communications and Comcast Corp. But rural phone providers like Frontier Communications Co could benefit the most relative to their size.
The trickle down affect will be very beneficial to the entire tier I and tier II platform providers of standard COTS platforms such as AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA. The obvious vertical to benefit from the stimulus is Healthcare, plus the expansion of broadband into the rural areas, as well as, cities and counties. We have already mentioned $7 billion ear-marked for broadband which covers a good portion of the network infrastructure supporting the healthcare vertical. The graph below illustrates Crystal Cube Consulting (CCC) projections of stimulus dollars to drive xTCA and other platform revenues, such as those supported by VITA and Blade.org standards over the foreseeable future.
The earmarked dollars for Broadband expansion will be a catalyst supporting the IT Healthcare electronic records or “E” records conversion which is sorely needed in reducing cost, minimizing errors and allowing doctors throughout the nation to pull a patients record. The Veterans Administration converted to E records nationally two years ago. Any veteran can walk into a VA clinic or hospital anywhere in the nation and have their records available to the attending doctor.
The opportunity for open system platforms and proprietary systems, such as, BladeCenter and VPX are tremendous, as we will detail in our five year forecast of stimulus revenues for IT healthcare and broadband.
