The Russian aluminum sections market has been strongly developing in the last 5 years. It has evolved from the state of acute shortage to virtual overproduction. Until 2006, many participants of the consumption industries faced a shortage of aluminum sections. Nonetheless, in 2007, the introduction of 16 to 20 different-tonnage extrusion presses at Russian factories resulted in a sudden burst of the aluminum sections production, which made solves the shortage problem. Moreover, 2007 became a turning point in market development – this was the first time when market participants had declared a surplus of aluminum sections. Assuming that the existing development trend continues, current production growth rates and too active commissioning of new facilities at extrusion factories will not be outweighed by the growing demand in user industries. According to experts, “overstocking” in the aluminum sections market might be possible as early as in 2008.
