Statistic data indicate that the Chinese incidence of allergy diseases is as high as 37.3%. The incidences of allergy in the eastern coastal regions are higher than that in the inner land. The incidences of allergy in industrialized regions are higher than that in the rural areas. Under the government pricing control policies, the market growth of the allergy drugs has slowed down significantly in 2007. The sales of allergy drugs is about RMB 3.9 billion (USD 557 million) with only 2.63% same period growth in 2007

The allergy drug market has intense competitions. The market shares from the top 20 companies account for about 88.44% of the Chinese hospital allergy drug market in 2007, which is similar to the situation in 2006. The No.1 Company is still Schering-Plough, taking XX% of the total Chinese allergy drug market. Ioratadine and desloratadine are the two key allergy products from Schering-Plough. However, many generic products have recently been introduced in the market and have intensified the market competition. The market shares of Schering-Plough have been diluted greatly and have declined from 2006. Xian-Janssen is the No.2 player with XX% of the market. Xian-Janssen’s strong position in the allergy drug market is supported by the strong growth of its core allergy drug mizolastine. UCB is the 3rd player in 2007 with XX% of the market, fuelled by its new product levocetirizine.

This report has systemically analyzed the Chinese allergy drug market. All drug data are based on hospital drug prescription and drug purchasing data from the hospital data monitor system that the China Nan Fang Institute of Medical and Economic Information has developed and maintained (Nan Fang Institute is a direct subsidiary of the Chinese State Food and Drug Administration, the SFDA).
