Unlike its smaller cousins (<80 feet) the Superyacht industry has not slowed down nearly as much, despite the recent stumbles the global economy has taken. The Superyacht, being a luxury good only available to the extremely wealthy (whose worldwide population is increasing) has plenty of demand. While some think that the volatile yet increasing prices of oil may make demand scarce, some of the potential clients are actually making their wealth from the oil business. Not only is the industry growing in 2008 but it is also moving towards the extreme, toward the mega yacht. As the wealthy become wealthier they have more liquidity. This may mean a decrease in units sold but not in revenues. Nevertheless, it would not be correct to say that the economic crisis will not affect the industry at all; it will but if so only in 2009-2010 and due to full order books, the impact may not be as severe.

In 2008 Europe was the most important region, and should remain so, in terms of number of boats sold and in terms of value. The North American market has softened considerably in 2008 due to the credit crunch which took place in early 2007 and also due to the weaker dollar. Meanwhile the Rest of the World (ROW) is becoming a very important and promising market especially the Middle East, China and South America.
