TechNavio Announces the Publication of its Report – Global NAS Market 2011–2015
TechNavio today launched its report Global Network Attached Storage (NAS) Market 2011–2015 based on an in-depth study covering the Americas, and the EMEA and APAC regions. The report aims to aid decision makers’ understanding of the key trends impacting this market.
Commenting on the report, an analyst from TechNavio’s Networking team said, “A SAN solution is believed to be much more efficient than a NAS solution. A single host can withstand more throughputs to a SAN-based disk than a NAS-based disk. Although this is the case for very high-end servers, almost all real-world applications need much less throughput than the maximum obtainable throughput capability of a SAN solution. A SAN or cluster-based file system is required if the systems connected to a SAN are expected to read and write the same file. Such file systems are becoming available, but they are high cost and equipped with relatively new technologies, while NAS provides access to multihost files with reasonable pricing. Hence NAS provides better access, is lower priced and thus a good option for enterprises.”
According to the report, the demand for low-end NAS is increasing rapidly. There is enormous demand from SMBs for backup and file sharing services without the overhead costs associated with a general-purpose server. NAS products meet these and other data storage requirements in the form of inexpensive, highly powerful, and almost zero-cost installation and maintenance solutions.
Further, the report also discusses that the backup of a NAS solution is normally slower than a backup of a SAN, which is a major concern for the large enterprises. This is one of the major challenges for the Global NAS market.
The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key players.
