In May 2008, Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy formed a new venture to tap opportunities in the European consumer electronics market. Carphone Warehouse is an independent retailer of mobile communication products and services and fixed line communication services. The company operates its business in the UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Carphone Warehouse operates in the two segments of the retail value chain: wholesale (sale of merchandise to intermediaries), and sales (physical store operation and online sales). It does not have presence in three other segments procurement of raw materials, transformation of raw materials into finished goods and warehousing.

Carphone Warehouse entered a joint venture with Virgin Group Investments to form Virgin Mobile France. The company tied up with Time Warner to acquire AOLs Internet access business in the UK. It allied with Best Buy, a US consumer electronics retailer, to launch Best Buy Mobile, an independent retail format in the US.
