Sugarless gum is the biggest category, with production value reached JPY 89 billion in 2007, and the trend of product development shows tooth-friendly products and breath-freshening products are the focus in the market. Fruit plus mint was a popular flavor among products launched in 2007.
Lotte, Cadbury and Meiji are the biggest three companies. While Lotte is the clear leader, both Cadbury and Meiji showed positive growth amid the decline of the market.
