About 2D Gesture Recognition
Gesture recognition is a mathematical calculation of interactions performed by a human being via a computing device. The interactions performed are passed through a number of mathematical algorithms before the computing device interprets it. Gesture recognition involves:

- Facial recognition
- Voice recognition
- Eye tracking
- Lip movement

Gesture recognition enhances efficiency and ease of usage for the underlying logical design of a stored program. Gesture recognition avoids the usage of keyboards and mouse for any action. It can be classified as 2D and 3D gesture recognition technologies. 2D gesture recognition makes use of a camera-enabled device. In gesture recognition, an invisible infrared light is beamed on the individual standing in front of the camera. This light is then reflected back to the camera, from where it is sent to a gesture recognition IC. The IC, with the aid of gesture recognition software, then creates a depth map of the images received and responds appropriately to the movements in front of the camera. 2D gesture recognition offers a user-friendly environment between a device and an individual. The author Announces the Publication of its Research Report – Global 2D Gesture Recognition Market 2015-2019

The author recognizes the following companies as the key players in the Global 2D Gesture Recognition Market: Cognitec Systems GmbH, CogniVue Corp., eyeSight Mobile Technologies Ltd. and PointGrab Ltd.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: AMD, Apple, Cross Match Technologies, Elliptic Labs, Gesture Technologies, Intel, Irisguard, Microchip Technology, Pebbles, Pyreos, Qualcomm and Thalmic Labs.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from The author’s team said: “The increased demand for gesture-enabled electronic devices in non-traditional sectors is one of the major trends in the market. The growing acceptance of gesture recognition technology in various consumer electronics has led to increased demand for gesture-enabled consumer electronics.”

According to the report, increased demand for gesture recognition solutions in the healthcare sector is one of the major drivers in the market. There is growing demand for 2D gesture recognition solutions in the Healthcare sector for training purposes. In addition, this technology helps doctors closely examine the human body during medical tests without touching the computer screen, thus maintaining hygiene.

Further, the report states that the low operating range of gesture recognition solutions is one of the major challenges in the market. Gestures need to be within a range that can be captured effectively by cameras to ensure accurate output. However, gesture recognition solutions cannot render precise results if images are taken from a distance, making this one of the major drawbacks for the market.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
