About Intrauterine devices
Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are contraceptive medical implants used to prevent pregnancies for a long period of time. They are also known as long-acting reversible contraceptive devices. An IUD is a T-shaped device, made of flexible plastic, with a copper wire wrapped around its stem, and is considered a safe and reliable method of sterilization for women. It is inserted into the uterus, and its primary aim is to prevent the fertilization of the egg by causing changes, such as thickening or toxicity of the cervical mucus, thus preventing fertilization by a sperm. There are two types of IUDs, namely, copper IUD (containing copper) and hormone-releasing IUDs (containing the progesterone hormone). Mirena and ParaGard are some of the prominent brands available in the market.

The report forecasts the global intrauterine devices market to grow at a CAGR of 3.44% over the period 2014-2019.

New Report Released: – Global Intrauterine Devices Market 2015-2019

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the Global Intrauterine Devices Market: Actavis, Bayer and Teva Pharmaceutical

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: SMB, Brecuro Medical, Eurogine, OCON Medical, Tespro, Pregna, Effik International, Medisafe Distribution, HLL Lifecare, HRA Pharma, Besins HealthCare, and Trimedic Supply Network.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “An increase in the number of unplanned pregnancies has increased the demand for contraceptives among several end users. At least 40% of pregnancies worldwide are unplanned, and this percentage is expected to rise. In 2012, approximately 85 million of 213 million pregnancies were unintended. Governments and NGOs are taking initiatives and implementing programs to curb unplanned pregnancies. The development of advanced contraceptives to improve safety, convenience, and benefits will also positively influence the market growth.”

According to the report, knowledge about family planning has increased the demand for contraceptives, especially IUDs, among several end users. IUDs are the world's most common form of reversible contraception and provide long-term birth control. More than 80% of IUD users, nearly 140 million women, are in Asia.

Further, the report states that lack of social acceptance remains the primary challenge for consumers to openly buy and use contraceptive devices due to morals and culture, as many people in conservative countries perceive contraception as immoral and against their religious sentiments.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
