The mining industry in Brazil is set for growth in the coming times as untapped natural resources draw significant investments and increase production of key minerals. Iron ore will remain the primary driver of the Brazilian mining sector, while base metals and gold will provide additional opportunities for sector expansion. Furthermore, Chinese demand for Brazilian resources has encouraged mining companies such as Vale to increase efficiency by focusing on vertical integration strategies across processing, freight transport and shipping.

Bauxite, gold, manganese, among other primary mineral products contribute positively to mineral export revenues. The devaluation of the Brazilian Real (as much as 17%) against the US Dollar boosted the country's mineral export earnings, with the iron ore market benefiting the most. Iron ore exports account for 6% of the country's total export revenues.

Brazil is also a major producer of several other key commodities such as gold, coal and phosphates. Mining and mineral products provided almost 2% to Brazil's GDP. Iron ore is the most important of Brazil's mineral exports, generating annual revenue of around $2 billion. Brazil is also READ MORE >
