About Kidney Stones Management Devices

Kidney stones are mineral and acid salts such as calcium crystals that are formed in the kidneys. The formation of stones in the kidneys is known as urolithiasis, which is one of the most common urological disorders worldwide. It causes obstruction to the drainage of urine from the kidneys and often causes severe pain. Kidney stone management devices help to provide treatment for urolithiasis by breaking down the stones enabling their removal from the body. Lithotripsy is the most common procedure for kidney stones management.

The analysts forecast the Global Kidney Stones Management Devices market will grow at a CAGR of 4.08 percent over the period 2013-2018.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the team said: “ESWL is the most frequently used procedure for eliminating kidney stones. There is a growing use of this procedure because it is a non-invasive surgery performed by directing shock waves that are created outside the body and passed through skin and tissue to the target area. It is an effective procedure for the removal of kidney stones that are radio-opaque and less than 20 mm in size. ESWL is an outpatient procedure and the patient is able to return to their routine activities almost immediately. The procedure has a minimal analgesic requirement with a reasonable stone clearance rate. Thus, the growing number of ESWL procedures performed is a major trend in the Global Kidney Stones Management Devices market. ”

According to the report, one of the major drivers in this market is the increasing incidence of urolithiasis in the adult population, mostly among the old population. Nearly five million patients are diagnosed with kidney stones worldwide every year.

Further, the report states that one of the major challenges in the market is the adverse effects of lithotripsy shock waves which can often result in hypertension, diabetes, and in some cases permanent loss of functional renal volume.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
