About Policy Management Software

Policy management and control software is a type of centralized software that performs functions such as subscriber authentication and access control, customer self-provisioning, service creation and deployment for carrier network administrators, and communication of subscriber profile data to business support systems and operations support systems. Over the last few years, policy servers have evolved to handle not only static data such as subscriber, network, and device information, but also dynamic session-based data such as the network bandwidth requirements of an application and which network routes should be used to deliver the best quality of service.

The analysts forecast the Global Policy Management Software market will grow at a CAGR of 19.55 percent over the period 2013-2018.
The Global Policy Management Software market can be segmented on the basis of application into Fixed Line Broadband Networks, Cable Broadband Networks, 3G Broadband Networks, WiMAX, and Long-Term Evolution Mobile Networks.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the team said: “LTE-A is the advanced version of LTE, and it can deliver speeds of up to 150 Mbps, which is double the maximum speed promised by LTE and 10 times faster than 3G technology. Yota, a Russian mobile broadband service provider, launched the first LTE-A network in the country in October 2012. However, SK Telecom was the first operator to roll out the technology commercially with the compatible handset in June 2013. The operators witnessed wide adoption of LTE-A with over 150,000 users, around 0.6 percent of its total subscriber base. The US was expected to have more than five LTE-A supported networks by 2013. LTE subscribers in North America will gradually shift to LTE-A, accounting for more than 50 percent of the total LTE connections in the region. Consequently, the adoption of smartphones supporting LTE-A is expected to be on the rise during the forecast period.”

According to the report, a need for bandwidth management is driving the market as network congestion and poor network performance are the major concerns for most of the organizations and network operators worldwide. In Europe, network operators observed that blocking of Voice-over-Internet Protocol and peer-to-peer traffic is a common cause for network congestion. Therefore, to improve network bandwidth, organizations are increasingly adopting policy management software.

Further, the report states that the policy management software is an expensive tool. Moreover, organizations need to hire IT-administration staff and provide them with training for proper implementation of the software. Hence, the high implementation cost associated with the purchase and setting up of policy management software inhibits the growth of the market.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
