There are cases where the patient can suffers from multiple fractures. In such critical cases, normal CMF fixation devices manufactured on the basis of certain assumptions and generalities might not be suitable and the patient would require customized implants. It has been witnessed that the demand for customized implants has increased over the past decade. Surgeons use custom plates and screws as they allow surgeons to undertake preoperative planning for the placing of implants through the development of plate designs that are specific to the needs of the individual patient. Custom CMF fixation devices, which are designed with the aid of computer imaging techniques, are used in plate and screw fixation and in temporomandibular joint replacement surgical procedures.”
