Allied Irish Banks is one of the major commercial banks in Ireland and provides banking as well as financial and other similar services. The Group offers investment banking, asset management, commercial banking, along with insurance. With its entry into the Baltic countries in 2008, the Allied Irish Banks has spread its presence across Europe.

However, in spite of its expansion, the Group continues to be plagued by financial problems. In 2009, the bank had to take a rescue package of Euro 7 billion from the Irish government has its capital value had fallen to Euro 486 million. With the Irish government announcing further plans to inject more capital into the AIB, the bank is well on its way to becoming nationalized.
