Amazon is rolling out new features to its Alexa smart-home technology, including a Smart Home Dashboard and new Fire TV features. The dashboard, available in the USA and Canada, offers quick access and on/off toggles for connected lights, devices and smart cameras linked to the Alexa system.
Fire TV’s Alexa Voice Remote can still control devices through voice commands, the new system offers a screen interface, just as Samsung offers a TV dashboard for its SmartThings platform, and the Apple TV via Control Centre. Amazon says additional features like smart home groups and smart thermostats will be added to the dashboard next year.
Amazon is also adding what it calls an Alexa Shortcut Panel that appears on-screen when you press the remote’s Alexa button. This will access the smart home controls, weather, news, and your video library.
