Google revealed its top trending food searches for 2021, with everything from “TikTok pasta” to cicadas. Writing for the Food Institute, Victoria Campisi suggested the trends mean that social media is having a massive impact on the food industry, as over half of the trending list stemmed from either celebrities or social media, with TikTok reigning supreme.
Other trends include more adventurous flavours and foods, including a rise in Korean and African foods and even insects. More people are cooking at home after the pandemic, and are more accepting of plant-based food.
