Improving consumer sentiment due to increasing economic growth, decreasing unemployment and likely also some minor positive effects from a tax reform in 2016 has led to good growth in retailing in Austria in 2017. The country remained characterised by very high density of retail space while the number of outlets decreased significantly but overall selling space fell only marginally. At the same time, new openings of shopping centres or retail parks have become relatively rare.
